Icon of the Seas is also notable for belonging to a new Royal Caribbean ship class to be powered by LNG to

guarantee reduced emissions. The ship's propulsion system consists of six dual-fuel engines, five bow thrusters,

three ABB 20MW diesel-electric driven azimuthing thrusters, and fuel cells. The fuel cells will be used as a

lower-emission alternative energy source for generating onboard electricity as well as fresh water. When at

berth, the ship will rely on a shore power connection to supply the hotel load. The engines are located on

deck 1 in the aft part of the ship. Three engines are rated at 21,790 HP and the other three are 18,680 for

a total of 121,410 HP. They are capable of a maximum speed of 22 knots. They also consume 250 tons of fuel

per day or about 80,000 gallons. That's more auto fuel than you'll probably use in your lifetime.
